Pedestrian killed after suspected red-light crash in Richardson; police seek suspect

What we know:

One person was killed late Tuesday night in Richardson after being hit by a car that may have run a red light and collided with another vehicle.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of W. Spring Valley Road and the east frontage road of N. Central Expressway.

According to investigators, a Cadillac SUV was heading north on the frontage road when it entered the intersection. A Kia sedan, which had the right of way, was traveling westbound. Police believe the Cadillac driver may have run a red light, causing the Kia to collide with the SUV.

The crash pushed the Cadillac forward, where it struck a pedestrian crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the Cadillac fled the scene after the crash. Police have arrested one suspect, but the second remains at large.

The driver of the Kia was not injured.

Richardson police are continuing to investigate and are working to locate the second suspect.

What we don't know:

The identity of the Cadillac driver has not been confirmed.

It has not been officially determined whether the Cadillac ran the red light, though witness statements and evidence from the scene suggest this may have been the case.

It is unclear what led the Cadillac driver to enter the intersection at that time.
