A public memorial service to honor slain Euless PD Officer David Hofer will be held Saturday afternoon in Bedford.

The department announced the service would be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pennington Field in Bedford. The event is free and open to the public.

Hofer, 29, was killed Tuesday in a shootout with a suspect who was high on meth in a public park. Brian Gonzalez, 22, stole weapons from a nearby house he used in the gun fight. Police killed Gonzalez in the shootout.

A private service for family and officers will be held on Friday. The department asked members of the public to respect the privacy of those involved in the Friday service.
