WEATHERFORD, Texas - A man has confessed to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in the Weatherford public library.
Police said the girl was studying in the teen section on Monday when 18-year-old John Hoffman approached her and said he was a college student working on a project about skin tones.
That’s when police said Hoffman started kissing the girl’s feet and touched her inappropriately under her clothes.
The girl did not cry out for help, but told her father after he picked her up.
"You want the public library to be a safe place, and then you get this sicko," said the father, who didn't want to be identified.
The girl was able to provide police with a description of Hoffman. He was arrested when he returned to the library the next day.
"If any parents or children had dealings with him and maybe more victims out there, we want these people to come forward and contact us as soon as possible," said Commander Chris Crawford with the Weatherford Police Department.
The girl’s father says it's unfortunate the incident happened at a place his daughter enjoyed going after school. He said she won't be returning - even with Hoffman behind bars.
City officials reassured the community the library will remain a safe place for visitors.
Hoffman is facing charges for indecency with a child and sexual conduct.
