CARROLLTON, Texas - Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Carrollton Saturday afternoon.
According to the Carrollton Police Department, the shooting happened at the RaceTrac located at 1716 W. Frankford Road.
Officers were called out after police got a call at 5:30 p.m. about a man with a gun who was slumped over in a vehicle.
According to police, officers say they tried waking him, and when he didn't respond, they tried to get him out of the vehicle.
That’s when police say there was a struggle, and the man was shot.
He later died at the hospital.
No officers were injured.
"A part of doing this job is putting themselves in dangerous situations. We never want it to come to this. We're taking care of our officers and are grateful none of our officers were hurt,” said Jolene Devito, with the Carrollton Police Department.
Carrollton police are conducting an internal investigation into the incident, with help from the FBI.
