A Frisco police academy cadet, who died after suffering a medical emergency during training, received a hero's salute.
Frisco police say Cadet Christopher David Murray was hospitalized on November 16 after he suffered a medical emergency during the final physical training exercise at the police academy. He died last week and was honored posthumously as an officer.
Before his training, Murray's family says he was being treated for a rare disease that damages the kidneys.
The hearse carrying his body got a full escort by law enforcement officers on Tuesday as they honored his service. The hearse made its way from Keller to DFW Airport, where his remains were put on a flight to be taken to his home state for burial.
Murray began his career with the department as a dispatcher in 2013 and made the decision to enter the academy in July of this year. He was roughly a week away from becoming an officer.
"It’s a sense of loss from the time this happened back at the first of December until today,” said Frisco Officer Rick Thompson. “And when we load him on the airplane to send him to Salt Lake City to pick up a motorcade to send him to Idaho, it’s just going to be a large loss for the community."
Murray is survived by his wife and young daughter. His wife is expecting the couple’s second child.
