Plano tips old water tower
The city of Plano tipped over a water tower on Monday.
The 178-foot tall tower near Highway 121 and Leadership Drive is about 30 years old and hasn't been used in about five years.
It was cut down to make room for the new Legacy West development.
The development will house shops, restaurants, apartments, a hotel and the new Liberty Mutual headquarters. The Toyota and FedEx headquarters will be just down the road.
Workers used torches to cut the base of the tower. It fell like a tree.
The metal will be hauled off and sold as scrap.
