A North Texas school board trustee and his two children were killed in a small plane crash in Parker County.

The twin-engine Cessna 310 went down Sunday afternoon in Poolville, which is about 40 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, all three people on board were killed in the crash.

Paradise ISD in Wise County confirmed one of its trustees, Dr. Heath Smith, died in the crash, along with his 8 and 6-year-old children.

"Our hearts are devastated for the Smith family. Words cannot fully express the grief that we feel for their loss. The tragedy that this family has endured is unimaginable. Dr. Smith was a vital part of our school district as an alumnus, parent, and board member. He was passionate about his love for Paradise ISD and his impact on students and staff will be long lasting. Please keep the Smith family in your prayers," the district said in a statement.

The plane had taken off from Carrizo Springs, southwest of San Antonio, and was heading to Bridgeport, which is just a few miles away from the crash scene.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
