GRAPEVINE, Texas - Parents in two cities are being warned about strange men who reportedly approached children near schools.
The first incident happened Monday afternoon on Wilshire Avenue near Hall Johnson Road in Grapevine.
A man said his 10-year-old son, who attends Heritage Elementary School, was offered a free ride home by a stranger. The boy ran and did not get a good description of the man or the car.
There will be extra police around the school and other nearby schools as a precaution. The school also sent a note home about the incident and encouraged parents to talk to their kids.
There was a similar incident Tuesday on Plaza Boulevard near Harrison Lane Elementary in Hurst.
A 9-year-old girl there said a person in a black van drove slowly down the street watching her as she walked home. She said the driver then stopped, got out of the van and started walking towards her. She ran home and told her family.
The girl described the man as Hispanic with a thin build, short hair and a mustache. His black van had no windows on the sides or the back and it had a light blue hubcap on the wheels.
Police do not believe the cases are connected.
