FRISCO, Texas - Frisco police arrested a 13-year-old student for an online threat made online over the weekend.
A Maus Middle School student was arrested Monday and taken to the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center. The female student was charged with exhibition, use, or threat of exhibition or use of firearms, a Class A misdemeanor. The offense is punishable by up to one year in jail.
Frisco ISD said some of its campuses received a threat on social media.
Since the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, the Frisco Police Department has arrested nine people for school-related terroristic threats and 17 people for exhibition, use, or threat of exhibition or use of firearms.
"To the young people who make threats against our school campuses…let me be clear. It’s not a game, it’s criminal. Each threat that is received will be taken seriously and investigated fully," said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson in a statement. "Our department will work with the district attorney’s office in each county to ensure that those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
The district said student absences will be excused Monday with tensions still high following the mass shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets and after Stonebriar Mall was evacuated as police investigated reports of shots fired.
Police said they did not find any evidence of a shooting at Stonebriar.
In Plano, the school district told families a social media rumor was reported to its anonymous tip line.
Plano ISD said the rumor did not mention any specific school, but that police were notified.
