One dead, two injured in two accidents on Central Expressway

Two accidents on northbound Central Expressway killed one person and shut down all lanes for hours near the Dallas-Richardson border on Tuesday.

Police said a 46-year-old man was hit and killed as he tried to run across the northbound HOV lane. The man was hit by a gold Mercury in the HOV lane and died on the scene about 12:40 p.m.

Richardson police said it's still unclear why the man who was killed was attempting to cross the freeway.

A few minutes later, about a quarter to half mile south of that, a second crash occurred between two pickup trucks and a bus. Preliminary information indicates one of the trucks tried to swerve out of the HOV lane and caused that crash.

Two people were transported to the hospital from the second crash, with one person reportedly suffering serious injuries. There was no immediate word what condition those two people were in.

Traffic re-opened about 4 p.m. Tuesday, just in time for rush hour.
