A principal from Northwest ISD was recently charged with DWI, marking his second such arrest in six years. He also recently received a promotion at the district.
Just this week, Jason Childress was promoted from Principal of Northwest High School to Assistant Athletic Director. Some parents now are wondering what happens now after he was arrested a second time for DWI.
Northwest High School students have a lot of questions about their principal, 40-year-old Jason Childress. Records show he was arrested by Trophy Club Police in December for driving while intoxicated. It’s his second DWI arrest in the past 6 years.
According to arrest records, an officer found Childress on December 16 in the front seat of his crashed truck. The truck had "tree bark in front bumper after he struck a tree."
The affidavit stated Childress had a "moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage, red and glassy eyes and confusion regarding his whereabouts." He reportedly told the Trophy Club officer he hadn't had a drink in two weeks and thought he was in Southlake.
According to the affidavit, when the officer searched Childress's truck he found an "open bottle of Seagram's Gin. The bottle was approximately ½ full...and was located in the center console next to the driver's seat."
Court records show Childress pleaded no contest to DWI in Keller in 2012 and served 15 months probation.
Northwest ISD issued a statement saying in part "employees with Northwest ISD have been through a background check and are fingerprinted. If an arrest occurs with an employee, NISD administration is made aware... and will take any appropriate actions, if necessary."
