North Texas skydivers survive mid-air collision

Two skydivers collided during a freefall over the weekend. Neither was seriously injured.

The accident happened Saturday at Skydive Spaceland Dallas in Whitewright, which is located about 65 miles northeast of Dallas in Grayson County.

Skydive Spaceland Dallas spokeswoman Christy West said the two men involved were licensed skydivers who had already made six jumps together earlier in the day.

Somehow on their seventh jump, they collided in the air. One jumper was unhurt but the other landed unconscious under his backup parachute.

The jumper was awake and alert by the time paramedics arrived. He was flown to Medical City Plano as a precaution but has no major injuries, West said.

West said both men were experienced skydivers jumping with their own equipment. The weather was not a factor.

Last weekend, another North Texas resident died in a skydiving accident in Colorado. But unlike the men in Grayson County, 17-year-old Dayton Bryant was jumping for the first time and was alone.

Friends and classmates at Azle High School remembered him over the weekend with a candlelight vigil.
