North Texas’ supply of O- and B- blood is critically low
DALLAS - Carter BloodCare is urging people to donate blood, adding that some blood types are in very short supply right now.
Why You Should Care: Carter BloodCare provides blood to hospitals in North, Central, and East Texas. It’s the main blood supplier for most North Texas hospitals.
But the organization said it currently has less than one day’s supply of O- and B- blood.
When donations are this low, hospital patients may have to wait for blood transfusions.
"Accidents happen every day. Emergencies happen every day. It’s the unexpected we need to be prepared for," said Carter BloodCare Chief Administrative Officer Veronica Moore. "We want to be able to see a full stock here available to make sure that we can be prepared to take care of any needs a patient needs today."
What You Can Do: You can give blood as often as six times per year or up to 24 times per year when you donate just platelets.
You can also help by sharing why you give to potentially inspire new donors.

Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. They must also feel well on the day of the donation.
