North Texans head to hardware, grocery stores ahead of freezing temperatures
North Texans made their way to hardware and grocery stores on Saturday to stock up on items for the freezing weather next week.
There's also a chance for some wintry mix precipitation.
Elliott's Hardware store in Dallas says space heaters and vent covers for the front of homes are selling quickly.
People are also buying salt to prepare for any precipitation and faucet covers to make sure pipes are taken care of.
"Today’s been much busier than all the days before," said James Gifford, the manager of Elliott's Hardware. "You definitely want to get it before the freeze, because once it freezes, you have to get out there and not only is it cold, but your stuff’s going to be freezing."
At the grocery store, we spoke with folks who were buying ingredients to make comfort foods at home, with many buying ingredients for homemade soups, chili and crockpot dinners.
"I’m not afraid of the cold, I’m more afraid of the pipes bursting and I’m afraid of the other people not knowing how to drive, so I’m staying home, only going out when necessary," said grocery shopper Laura Garcia.
People also stocked up on pet food so they don't have to go out for any reason once the cold weather moves in.
"I’m not completely empty, but I just want to prepare in case I can’t go to the store, or I can’t go anywhere, I do have what I need in my closet," said Daniel Albarbarawi.
The DFW area is no stranger to this type of winter weather and neither are those who live here.
However, it is still important to prepare and take it seriously and we saw a lot of people doing that today.
