Nicky Katt dies: 'Dazed and Confused' actor was 54

Nicky Katt, the actor known for roles in "Dazed and Confused," "Boston Public" and "Boiler Room," has died. 

His attorney John Sloss confirmed Katt’s death to Fox News Digital.

The backstory:

Katt was born on May 11, 1970 in South Dakota. He was a child actor, making his television debut in a 1980 episode of "Fantasy Island."

Katt appeared on several TV shows in the ‘80s, including "CHiPs", "Father Murphy," "Code Red," "Herbie, the Love Bug," "Voyagers!," "Quincy, M.E.," "V," "The Get Along Gang," "The Facts of Life," "Dear John" and "Uncle Buck."

He made his movie debut in 1981’s "Underground Aces," also appearing in "Gremlins," "The Burbs," "Martians Go Home" and "Sister Act."

His breakout role was in 1993’s "Dazed and Confused," directed by Richard Linklater. Katt played Clint Bruno, the high school bully who got a beer poured on him during a keg party. Other rising stars in "Dazed and Confused" included Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Renée Zellweger, Parker Posey and Joey Lauren Adams.

Katt was a regular on Linklater’s films, working together again in 1996's "subUrbia," 2001's "Waking Life" and 2003's "School of Rock."

Katt's other most notable role was as stockbroker Greg Weinstein in the 2000 film "Boiler Room" starring Affleck, Vin Diesel and Giovanni Ribisi.

According to Fox News Digital, Katt worked with director Steven Soderbergh at least three times, playing a hitman in "The Limey" in 1999 and appearing in "Full Frontal" in 2001. "Full Frontal" starred Catherine Keener, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. More than a decade later, Katt reunited with Soderbergh for "Behind the Candelabra."

Katt also appeared in Christopher Nolan's 2002 psychological thriller "Insomnia" and later played a S.W.A.T. team member in Nolan’s "The Dark Knight" in 2008. 

His other film credits include roles in "A Time to Kill," "Batman & Robin," "The Way of the Gun," "Sin City," "Death Proof," "Snow Angels" and "The Sitter."

Katt played geology teacher Harry Senate on "Boston Public," a hit drama that aired on Fox. He also appeared in episodes of "Love & War," "Friends," "Monk," "The Guardian," "Law & Order," "King of the Hill" and "ER."

His final on-screen appearance was during an episode of the Hulu series "Casual," according to IMDb.
