DALLAS - Two years ago a 24-year-old pregnant mother was found murdered in an abandoned Oak Cliff home. Now her family is suing Dallas police for negligence.
According to the lawsuit, D’Lisa Kelley called her sister in distress on March 7, 2014. A man’s threatening voice was heard on the call.
Her sister reported the conversation to 911, but Dallas police never responded.
The suit puts blame on the officer who was supposed to respond and alleges negligence on the part of the 911 call taker.
“There was a full internal affairs investigation that determined that the procedures were not followed. The procedure is obviously in place to ensure timely response to these types of situations and you have a pregnant lady who is now dead,” said Emmanuel Obi, the family’s attorney.
Chris Bowers, an attorney for the city of Dallas, said he has not yet seen the suit, but does not believe the city is liable.
To date, no one has been arrested for Kelley’s murder.
