McDonald's says it's bringing back 'everyone's favorite sandwich'

McDonald’s said it’s bringing back "everyone’s favorite sandwich" temporarily to U.S. restaurants.

The Smoky BLT Quarter Pounder with Cheese is making a "limited time" reappearance, which began on Wednesday, according to the chain. It will be available on menus "while supplies last," the company added.

The sandwich, which was previously introduced as a temporary offering in November 2022, is made with a "100% free beef Quarter Pounder patty … two slices of melty American cheese, three half strips of thick cut Applewood Smoked bacon, three fresh Roma tomatoes, shredded lettuce and a special, smoky BLT sauce – all on a toasted sesame seed bun."

The sandwich will be accompanied on the menu by the Smoky BLT Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese during its limited-time run, the fast-food chain said.

A trend among fast food chains to generate buzz, McDonald’s often adds temporary items to the menu alongside permanent staples like the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, Chicken McNuggets and Egg McMuffin. Last week, it announced a limited-time, Special Grade Garlic Sauce exclusively through the McDonald’s mobile app.

But not all temporary items are a hit. In 2022, McDonald’s tested a plant-based "McPlant" burger at about 600 restaurants and later said it was a flop.

"It was not successful in either market," Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald's USA, said last month. "So, I don’t think the U.S. consumer is coming to McDonald’s or looking for a McPlant or other plant-based proteins from McDonald’s now."

Meanwhile, its core menu items bring McDonald’s about $75 billion in global annual food sales, the chain said in early December.

McDonald’s $5 meal deal unveiled

Another limited-time offering involves a $5 McDonald’s meal deal, aiming to give customers "delicious, affordable options" amid price hikes.

"We heard our fans loud and clear – they're looking for even more great value from us, and this summer that's exactly what they'll get," Erlinger said.

The meal will feature the choice of a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, small fries, four piece Chicken McNuggets, and a small soft drink.
