Officer hospitalized after man fires at police in Addison

A man was shot by police early Tuesday morning in Addison after firing at officers and injuring one of them.

What we know:

Addison and Farmers Branch police were investigating suspected narcotics activity in the 4000 block of Belt Line Road around 1:30 a.m. Officers approached a vehicle in the parking lot of a business, believing it was connected to the investigation.

When officers asked a man to step out of the vehicle, he opened fire on them. Officers returned fire, striking the man.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition. A Farmers Branch officer was also hospitalized with minor injuries but has since been treated and released.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

What we don't know:

Authorities have not released details about the initial narcotics investigation.

The identity of the suspect and the charges he may face have also not been disclosed.
