Man killed in bar shooting near UNT campus
DENTON, Texas - Denton police arrested a man for shooting and killing another man at a bar early Tuesday morning near the University of North Texas campus.
Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. after a fight at the Library Bar on Fry Street. Two groups of men were involved in some sort of disagreement and one man pulled out a gun to shoot a man in the other group.
Police say Hanyel Leon Gomez is being charged with murder.
The victim was later identified as Deandre Wilson, a former Denton Guyer High School student.
“Well in that type of setting, there were people inside the bar. So obviously we do have some witnesses. So hopefully we are hoping that that will bear fruit and lead us to a suspect,” said Shane Kizer, a spokesman for the Denton Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
