FORT WORTH, Texas - An elderly Fort Worth woman was found murdered in her home in Fort Worth Wednesday afternoon. Police said her son confessed to killing her.
Fort Worth police said 50-year-old Kenneth Baker called 911 around 2:30 p.m. to report a dead body in his mother’s home in the 6900 block of Heritage Lane. He reportedly told dispatch officers that he suffocated her.
Baker met responding officers at the door and directed them to his mother’s body. He told them he did it and said he and his mother had argued. He also confessed to killing her dog, police said.
Friends of the family identified the victim as Pat Shelton. Neighbor Danny Messick said Baker told him he was concerned about his mother's health.
“He thought she was starting to develop Alzheimer’s and was very concerned and would get aggravated every now and then with what was going on,” he said.
Messick talked with police. He said Baker's demeanor didn't set off any red flags.
He is also friends with Baker's stepfather, who told him Batker had confessed to the crime.
“He just said that he had murdered his mom and her dog and was calling the police,” the neighbor explained.
Shelton's other son showed up to the home to talk to investigators. He declined to release any photographs of mom or his brother.
Baker is being held in the Mansfield jail on a $250,000 bond.
