Lewisville parking lot shooting kills 1, injures another

Lewisville police are searching for a vehicle involved in a parking lot shootout that killed one and injured another.

Lewisville police are investigating a deadly shootout in a parking lot between a group of men in two vehicles that put nearby customers in danger.

The shooting happened on E. Round Grove Road, just east of SH-121, inside the parking lot of a restaurant and oil change shop.

After the shooting, both cars left the scene, but shell casings mark the spot where the two cars met up.

"I come here all the time," Dorene Washington said.

Washington lives across the street with her three children.

She said she frequents the beauty supply store that is just feet from the scene.

Thursday, her usual trip looked very different.

"I was like, what is going on? Because nothing is ever going on in this area. This is a really good area, so I was shocked," she said.

At 2 p.m., two vehicles pulled into the parking lot together.

Police said the people inside both vehicles knew each other but didn't elaborate on how.

"The individuals exchanged some words. Some bad blood went down, we aren’t sure what yet, but it led to a shooting," said Matt Martucci, with the Lewisville Police Department.

Two men were shot but were able to get in a Porsche and drive off.

The black Porsche with two men inside went to the Bridges of Oakbend Apartment complex down the road.

One of the victims, who was shot in the hand, called 911. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the other victim in the Porsche was shot in the stomach and later died.

It’s unclear if the victims lived in the apartment complex, but one of the Porsche’s back tires was flat and a window was shattered, so it’s likely they couldn’t drive too far.

Lewisville police told FOX that detectives did find a handgun inside the Porsche.

Investigators said they're still searching for the second vehicle involved in the shootout.

Police only gave a vague description of a dark-colored Chrysler.

"We don’t know either if a person or persons was in that other vehicle and if anyone in that vehicle sustained any wounds from the shootout," Martucci said.

Police said they’re still investigating why the two vehicles met up in the parking lot.

Washington said she’s just thankful she and her children weren’t there at the time.

"I don’t know what I would’ve done. I would’ve went crazy. I would’ve ran with my babies trying to protect them," she said.
