DESOTO, Texas - A knife-wielding man who called 911 and said he wanted to hurt police was shot and killed by a DeSoto police officer.
What We Know
The shooting happened Friday around 11 a.m. at a home near the intersection of Hunter’s Creek Drive and Shadywood Road.
Police say 26-year-old Arthur Armstrong Jr called 911 and claimed he had several weapons and wanted to harm police.
DeSoto police say the man was in the front yard holding two knives and "immediately approached officers aggressively" when they arrived. They say officers gave several commands to stop and drop the weapons, but he refused as he neared the officers.
An officer shot Armstrong once in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
What We Don't Know
It's unclear if police found Armstrong had any other weapons besides the two knives. Police did not say if he lived at the home or if he knew someone who lived there.

The DeSoto police officer who fired his gun has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice.
DeSoto police say they will release more information in a press conference on Monday.
