Paxton supporters head to Austin for impeachment trial

A small group of supporters of Ken Paxton are headed to Austin for his impeachment trial. Support for the suspended Texas attorney general remains strong in Collin County where he is from.

Some supporters of embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton traveled to Austin for his impeachment trial.

The group of about 30 people gathered early Tuesday morning in an Allen store parking lot to make their way to the state capitol.

Organizers said they each paid about $50 for a ticket on the bus.

The historic impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is set to begin on Tuesday morning.

Most of Paxton's supporters did not want to talk to FOX 4. A few said they wanted to witness history and back the person they voted for.

"What do you hope comes out of this trial?" the reporter asked.

"Truth, honesty that the conservative party stands behind a wonderful man that has done great things for the state of Texas," Ceerose De Castillo said.

Support for Paxton remains strong in Collin County where he is from.

A crowd showed up to back the suspended attorney general at a GOP Labor Day picnic over the weekend in Plano.

Ken Paxton's affair will be focus of impeachment trial

In interviews with House impeachment managers, Paxton’s former top deputies — as well as his former personal aide — said his affair was common knowledge. Paxton's impeachment trial is set to begin Tuesday.

He could not talk about the impeachment effort at the picnic due to a gag order in the trial.

But Paxton and his wife, State Sen. Angela Paxton, did urge voters to replace Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan months after that chamber voted overwhelmingly in favor of impeachment.
