The 47-year-old was pronounced dead at 10:39 a.m. at his Los Angeles home on Jan. 3, authorities told The Associated Press. A full report won't be available until the case is closed, the office said.

Baena was born on June 29, 1977, and raised in Miami, Florida. He attended film school at New York University and then moved to Los Angeles to begin his career.

Baena had more than a dozen films to his name, with his most notable movie credit as co-writer of the 2004 film "I Heart Huckabees" starring Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law and Naomi Watts. In 2014, he wrote and directed "Life After Beth," a zombie comedy starring Plaza. It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Baena and Plaza, best known for her breakout role on "Parks and Recreation," were married in 2021, but had been together since 2011. They kept their relationship private, according to People.

In May 2021, the "Parks and Recreation" actress referred to Baena as her "darling husband" in a social media post. The couple tied the knot the same year, according to The Associated Press.

"So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble," Plaza wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of the two.

The 40-year-old actress rose to fame playing April Ludgate on the television series "Parks and Recreation" and was nominated for an Emmy for her role on "The White Lotus."
