IRVING, Texas - A suspect in a stolen truck is in the hospital after being shot at by Irving police on Saturday morning.
The Irving Police Department says the truck's owner called police shortly before 2 a.m. to tell them his vehicle was being stolen from his apartment complex on Meridian Drive.
The truck's owner witnessed the theft and hopped into his second vehicle to chase it. Officers located them and pursued the stolen vehicle into Grand Prairie.
The stolen vehicle eventually reached a dead end on Singleton Boulevard, near the TRA Wastewater Plant.
Police say the suspect attempted to escape by repeatedly ramming multiple police vehicles. Officers at the scene fired at the suspect.
Irving PD is not saying if the driver was hit by gunfire. Only that he has minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
"We haven’t seen any issues with theft or seen any broken glass or even heard any commotion so, definitely weird for this area," said Tristan Smits, who lives at the apartment complex where the truck was stolen with his wife.
FOX 4 spoke over the phone with the man whose truck was stolen.
He says while chasing the suspect he gave 911 dispatchers a rundown of every street and highway they were on until police caught up.
"I’d do the same thing in that situation, just, keep a distance just so you know where they’re going," said Smits.
Irving police say criminal and administrative investigations are underway, as per police policy.
Grand Prairie Police and the Dallas County Public Integrity Unit are conducting a separate investigation.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released.
