Officers shot and killed murder suspect who pulled out gun, Irving PD says

Irving police say the man that three officers shot and killed Friday night was wanted for murder.

Irving police say the man that three officers shot and killed Friday night was wanted for murder.

Irving PD says the dead man was a suspect in a murder that happened the night before. Police say he shot and killed a man sitting in a parked car.

When a team of officers found him, they say he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at them.

Irving police have so far decided not to release any body camera video from the incident.

On Thursday night around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting on Willow Creek Drive, where Juan Carlos Piedra Ceballos, 37, was found dead inside his car in an apartment parking lot.

Witnesses told police the suspect was 40-year-old Carlos Munguia. The witnesses said that Munguia lived at the complex and walked out to the car and began shooting. He then ran from the area.

Nearly 24 hours later, the department's fugitive unit followed up on leads and spotted Munguia in the area of West State Highway 183 between Belt Line and Story roads.

The three officers told Munguia to get on the ground. Police say he turned, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers. The three officers fired, hitting the suspect.

Munguia was later taken to the hospital where he died.

No officers were hurt.

At a news conference on Monday, Irving Police noted that Munguia had a previous charge for assault with a knife and previous assault and drug charges out of Florida.

Irving police say there is no known connection between Munguia and Ceballos.

Armed man wanted by Irving PD's Fugitive Unit fatally shot by officers, police say

Irving police said officers shot and killed an armed man who pointed a gun at them Friday night.

Police say they aren’t releasing any video of the incident at this time to protect a potential grand jury that might see the video.

Police told fox4 Munguia wasn’t a stranger to the department.

"We do have a previous history with him in Irving where he has committed an assault by using a knife an as a weapon," said Irving Officer Robert Reeves.

Police say Munguia also had assault and drug charges out of Florida.

Irving PD update on shooting of murder suspect

Irving police said they shot and killed 40-year-old Carlos Munguia after he allegedly shot a man on Friday night.

"This is definitely someone we didn't want to just put a warrant out for and hope that we found him at a later date," Reeves said. "He had already shown his willingness to kill somebody. He still was known to have the weapon on his person. And that's why our officers were looking for him to protect the public."

Irving police say they’re still investigating the relationship between the 37-year-old victim and Munguia and why Piedra-Cabellos was there.

Right now, police say they don’t have a motive for the shooting.
