Irving Firefighter Aaron Donohue
IRVING, Texas - A 23-year-old woman was arrested after police said she severely injured an Irving firefighter by hitting him with her vehicle while driving the wrong way into the scene of another crash on State Highway 183.
The wreck happened just after 3:45 a.m. Sunday as 30-year-old Aaron Donohue and other first responders were wrapping up another suspected drunken-driving crash that involved five vehicles in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 183.
Police said that portion of the highway was still shut down due to the crash.
Yajaira Estrada Calderon was going the wrong way on Hwy. 183 and drove her 2016 Dodge Challenger into the crash scene. She hit Donohue from behind as he was sweeping away debris, police said.
The firefighter was rushed to a hospital and is now in the intensive care unit because of a traumatic brain injury.
Police said officers who were at the scene blocking traffic had to pin Calderon in her vehicle because she tried to take off.
She's facing charges for intoxication assault.
