People planning to travel through North Dallas, Richardson and Plano this weekend should plan ahead. The Central Expressway will be shut down near the President George Bush Turnpike.

The entire highway between Renner Road in Richardson and 15th Street in Plano will be closed in both directions starting at 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Workers are demolishing the Plano Parkway bridge to improve access to the turnpike.

“There’s gonna be a lot of work still to come down the road and this area is gonna look different. You know, I make this commute every day and so I know how congested it can get. We’re going through growing pains right now having to shut this freeway down for the weekend but in the end it’s gonna be well worth it,” said Ryan LaFontaine, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Transpiration.

The highway is expected to reopen before 5 a.m. Monday.
