Hometown Hero: Tarrant Churches Together
FORT WORTH, Texas - For the sixth year, Tarrant Churches Together held a Martin Luther King, Jr. day of service. This year it involved 28 sites across Fort Worth.
We joined teams of volunteers at Beth-El Congregation in southwest Forth Worth. This event benefited Kids Against Hunger.
The goal was to assemble 10,000 vacuum-sealed bags of lentils, rice, spices and protein powder. The women, men and children in this effort exceeded the goal with 12,096 bags of food which will be distributed this month in Tarrant County.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price is holding a week of compassionate service and this event partnered with the mayor's initiative.
Up until Saturday, lots of events will take place for service. If you'd like to get involved, visit fortworthtexas.gov/news/2016/01/week-of-compassion/ or www.mayorsweekofservice.com/service.
