Hometown Hero: Mary Ann Manrodt
In February 2015, Mary Ann Manrodt started volunteering at Our Community Pantry. She's been there every Monday ever since.
Our Community Pantry is a partnership between the North Texas Food Bank and St. Philip's School and Community Center. The South Dallas food pantry serves 550 qualifying families each month.
The clients live in a food desert without access to a supermarket. They used to buy most of their food in convenience stores or fast food restaurants. They now get healthy, fresh food.
Mary Ann works a full-time job decorating high-end wedding cakes. She makes time to volunteer at Our Community Pantry because she strongly believes in giving back. She told me that anyone who has the time should consider volunteering there.
Log on to www.ntfb.org to volunteer. You can also make a monetary donation to the North Texas Food Bank on the website. $1 buys three meals.
