HALTOM CITY, Texas - Police in the Fort Worth suburb of Haltom City are investigating the shooting for a convenience store clerk.
The shooting happened during an attempted robbery Thursday afternoon at a store on Denton Highway.
Police said the clerk tried to stop his attacker and was shot in the stomach. A store customer called 911 and the shooter drove off.
Haltom City police said they’ve seen an increase in robbery attempts lately.
“We’re not sure if this is related but they’re happening in the daytime, nighttime. But we are seeing an uptick in this so it is likely that at least some of those are connected. But unfortunately we don’t have a lot of information to go on,” said Det. Matt Spillane with the Haltom City Police Department.
Police said the clerk’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators found the shooter’s getaway car abandoned in North Richland Hills.
No arrests have been made.
