GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - A Grand Prairie police officer fatally shot a woman who police said was armed with a handgun Saturday night.
The incident started just after 7 p.m. when police got a call about a domestic assault at a home in the 1200 block of Tripoli Trail.
When officers arrived at the scene, they met with the victim, who was able to get out of the home through a window.
While officers were speaking with her, the suspect also came out of the home and reportedly began walking towards the officers with a handgun pointed at them.

Police said officers "feared for their lives and the life of the victim." That’s when one officer fired, hitting the suspect.
Officers gave her first aid, but she was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Rick Woods lives two doors down from where the shooting happened. He said things like that don't usually happen in his neighborhood.
"We heard three or four loud bangs," he recalled.
Woods sent FOX 4 video of his street after the shooting.
"They were here for hours. They were recorded on our Ring camera until after midnight," he said.
Police said the two women were romantically involved. They have not released any details on what led up to the assault.
The case is being investigated as a possible suicide-by-cop situation.
The officer who fired the shots was placed on routine administrative leave.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is also conducting an independent investigation.
