Freezing temps cause water main break in Kennedale

The frigid temperatures are to blame for a water main break in a Tarrant County subdivision that left many residents without water.

The homes in one subdivision in Kennedale had a water outage Monday night when a main broke. The city went right to work fixing it. Homeowners found different ways to deal with living temporarily without water until it was finally fixed on Tuesday.

When workers were patching the broken water main, John Russey looked on and was just wishing they would hurry so water to his house could be turned back on.

"This morning I got up and got bottled water and gallon jugs to pour in the commode so we could make the commode flush,” he explained.

Russey was one of more than two dozen homes in the Winding Creek Estates community near Bowman Springs and I-20 that were without water.

The city says sub-freezing temperatures likely caused the pipe to break. It took hours to fix it and then flush the line.

Eric Garner can relate. Going without water with four kids, one of whom had a birthday, wasn’t easy.

"I'm not even gonna try,” he said. “I'm just gonna go get a hotel before it's over with. This is bad."

A city spokesperson says residents do not have to boil their water.
