Fort Worth passes Austin to become the fourth-largest city in Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth is now the fourth-largest city in Texas, according to new estimates from the Texas Demographic Center.
Fort Worth passed Austin to take the fourth spot behind Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
By The Numbers: Fort Worth's population grew to more than 989,878 by January 1, 2024, according to the estimate.
That barely edged out Austin's estimated 986,928 residents.
The Texas Demographic Center's numbers show that Fort Worth has grown by 7.7 percent between 2020 and 2024.
Austin has grown by 2.6 percent during that time.
