The massive celebration in Sundance Square will include live music, activities, food trucks and a fireworks show for more than 40,000 expected attendees.

"It’s going to be massive in Downtown. It’s going to be bigger than last year, I can promise you that much. It’s going to be absolutely awe-inspiring," said Gregory Newman, the director of music at Sundance Square. "This an amazing place where you can come downtown with your whole family, not many cities have something like this."

The event is free.

Fireworks Show

Organizers say this year's fireworks show will include a panoramic view of fireworks to cap off the night.

"This year it’s going to be all around us," said Newman. "We’re going to have fireworks going off from four different building rooftops here aound Sundance Square. Last year we only had them off of one, so this is a huge increase."

Security

Former Fort Worth police chief Ed Krauss is the chief security officer for Sundance Square, which is a private entity.

Dozens of off-duty police officers and some sheriff's deputies will play a part in keeping the expected crowd of 39,000 revelers safe.

There will be plain-clothed officers and even law enforcement officers perched on rooftops.

"We do have overwatch on several of the buildings that the police department is leading the efforts on," said Krauss. "They’re looking for any suspicious behavior somebody that’s not fitting in, somebody whether it looks like they’ve had too much to drink, or something more sinister or suspicious."

The coordination between Sundance Square, it's own security and the Fort Worth Police Department is a pivotal point between the celebration and safety. A Fort Worth PD spokesman tells FOX 4 that watchful eyes will continue even after the fireworks conclude.

"We’re also going to be out in full force for drunk driving. We don’t want anybody to get hurt going home or trying to get home so, if you do plan on drinking this evening we ask that you plan ahead get someone to be a designated driver or set yourself up do some ride share and get yourself home safely," said Fort Worth Police Sergeant Brad Perez.
