Fort Worth man killed after breaking into ex-girlfriend’s apartment

A man who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s Fort Worth apartment was shot and killed over the weekend.

What we know:

Fort Worth police said the shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at an apartment complex on Watermark Drive, which is in a neighborhood near NW Loop 820 and Lake Worth Boulevard.

Investigators believe the victim had broken into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

Police said he confronted his ex-girlfriend and the suspect as they attempted to enter the apartment.

That’s when the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.

Officers found the victim on the third-floor landing of the apartment building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

What we don't know:

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.

They also haven’t released any information about the suspect or said what type of relationship he or she has with the ex-girlfriend.

The suspect is reportedly cooperating with the investigation and has not yet been arrested.

A grand jury will likely decide if the suspect acted in self-defense or should be charged with a crime.
