Fort Worth house fire kills elderly man

An elderly Fort Worth man was killed in a house fire on Monday.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said the victim, a man in his 70's, was found dead in his bedroom at the home on south Hughes Avenue near east Berry Street. Neighbors said he lived alone.

A neighbor, Terrell Palmer, tried to go in after the victim by kicking the front door in.

"I didn't hear anything, I couldn't even get in there. I got on all fours and tried to crawl and I couldn't even do that," Palmer said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
