Fort Worth apartment shooting leaves 1 dead, 3 injured

One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting at an apartment complex on the city's east side.

The Fort Worth police chief is hoping someone will come forward with information about a deadly overnight shooting.

One man was killed, and several others were injured in the shooting that happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near East Loop 820 and Meadowbrook Drive, which is on the city’s east side.

Police said they got 911 calls with reports of a shooting at the Handley Oaks Apartments. By the time officers arrived, they found four victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The fourth person was grazed by a bullet and treated by paramedics.

Police Chief Neil Noakes expressed his frustration about the crime and said his officers are working to track down the shooter.

"We’re trying to get some information from the witnesses that were on scene, trying to get someone to give us good information so we can track this person down," he said.

13-year-old Chelsea Moore lives with her mother at the apartments.

"I was downstairs in the kitchen making myself some food when we heard some shots go off," she recalled.

They hid. So did other neighbors.

"I worry about my daughter getting shot," said neighbor Jenny Zaskoda.

Veronica Gravelle was inside with her children.

"I know there was over 20 shots fired," she recalled. "It was just rapid back-to-back-to-back."

38-year-old Jerron Albritton was found dead on scene. His mother shared photos of him to FOX 4.

"He had a lot of kids," Gravelle said. "You would see them playing outside all the time, and he’d be outside watching them."

For now, Fort Worth police say they do not know what led to the shooting.

Neighbors believe Albritton may not have been directly involved.

12-year-old boy killed in Fort Worth shooting

A 12-year-old died at a hospital after a shooting late Monday night in Fort Worth.

"Apparently, he had just put his kids down to bed and had walked over to the store and was coming back from the store and got caught in the crossfire of everything," Gravelle said.

Neighbors say the complex is a popular hangout for the wrong reasons.

It’s unclear if surveillance cameras were able to capture video of whoever fired the shots.

For now, families living here hope they never again have to be in the middle of a shooting.

Police have not shared any description of the suspect.

They said it is still early in the investigation.

There’s no word yet on the motive for the shooting.
