FORT WORTH, Texas - One person was killed and another was seriously hurt Thursday night in an apartment fire.
It happened just before 9 p.m. at the Brazos Apartments on Hulen Street, which is near Chisholm Trail Parkway and Interstate 20 in southwest Fort Worth.
Firefighters pulled a man and woman in their 60s out of the apartment. Both were taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas because of severe burns.
One of the victims did not survive, although it’s not yet clear if it was the man or the woman.
A firefighter was injured as well. He is expected to recover.
“It’s just time to reinforce with the people in the neighborhood and the people in the city, have smoke alarms. And check your smoke alarms. Make sure they work and have an occasional fire safety drill to know how to get out of your house. Just know what to do just in case of an emergency,” said Kyle Clay with the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Ten other people displaced by the fire are getting help from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
