FORDYCE, Ark. - A shooter opened fire at a Fordyce, Arkansas, grocery store Friday in a mass shooting that left three people dead and several others wounded, including two law enforcement officers, according to police.
In a statement released Friday, Arkansas State police said the shooting happened at the Mad Butcher grocery store, but it's still unclear whether it happened inside the store or in the parking lot.
Police gave an update Friday afternoon stating that 8 people were wounded and some of those who were shot were facing life-threatening conditions.
They said the suspect was currently in custody with non-life-threatening conditions. No further details were released.
Officials said another update is anticipated Friday evening.
Video posted on social media showed at least one person lying in the parking lot, and in another video, multiple gunshots could be heard.
A report from the Southeast Arkansas Times said a man entered the grocery store with a gun, prompting a "shootout" between the suspect and law enforcement. A police officer was hurt but is expected to be OK; the suspect was critically injured, police said.
