DALLAS - More than a dozen horses were saved by Dallas firefighters during an overnight barn fire.
There were about 20 horses in the barn near Interstate 20 and St. Augustine Road when it caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Two of the animals died but at least 15 others were set free from their stalls as firefighters began to attack the flames. Some firefighters fought the blaze while others helped the trapped animals.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters believe it started near the stalls where the two horses died.
There’s no word yet on if investigators have been able to reach the owner of the property. No one has shown up to inspect the horses or the property.
Some of the freed horses did end up escaping the property and roaming the street but police were able to round them up.
