ARLINGTON, Texas - Police arrested a man after finding something suspicious in a car near AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The car was parking at a Quick Trip gas station at Division and Collins streets around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
An officer ran the plates and found a warrant. The officer also noticed a "homemade suspicious device" in the car, so firefighters were called to the scene.
The gas station was evacuated while a robot was used to investigate the device.
“When they looked at it, they thought it looked like an explosive device. It turns out that it was a homemade device. I really can’t get into it further than that, but they deemed it necessary to disrupt the device with basically a water cannon,” said Wes Montgomery, the battalion chief for the Arlington Fire Department.
The device did not explode. Police said it ended up being a large "fireworks" or "firecracker."
Police have not yet released the man’s name. He was arrested on unrelated charges.
