Missing Grand Prairie 5-year-old boy found dead in nearby creek

The search for missing 5-year-old Santiago Aburto has come to a heartbreaking end.

Grand Prairie police have issued an Endangered Missing Person Alert for a 5-year-old boy last seen on Sunday evening.

What we know:

Santiago Aburto was last seen around 7 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Pioneer Parkway.

Police believe he walked out of his residence at the Ashton Park Apartment Homes and did not return.

He has an intellectual disability, and his disappearance poses a threat to his health and safety, police said.

Aburto was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt with "Mickey" on it, blue shorts, and no shoes. He is described as Hispanic, 3 feet 10 inches tall, 55 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police did not elaborate on Aburto's intellectual disability or say whether he has any difficulty communicating with others.

While Grand Prairie police have not released any details about their search efforts, SKY 4 captured images of officers who appeared to be searching a creek near the apartment complex where the boy went missing.
