Duncanville officers shot a “suspicious person” who they say wouldn't listen to commands and reached into his bag.

The suspect that Duncanville officers shot has not yet been identified. Witnesses say the incident lasted about 15 to 20 minutes. Duncanville PD has not said how many of their officers fired or how many times.

Police were called Tuesday just after 1 p.m. to the 600 block of North Clark Road to investigate a suspicious person.

“He was actually walking up and in between houses and sitting in between houses,” said Duncanville Police Officer Dough Sisk. “So that’s one of the reasons officers contacted him.”

Duncanville PD says officers tried to approach a man, but he refused to comply with commands and made statements that he had warrants for his arrest and was not going to jail.

Police say the man reached for something in a bag and continued to ignore officers’ commands to show his hands. After making aggressive movements with his hand in the bag, Duncanville PD says officers shot the man.

Video shot by a witness shows officers moving away from the suspect, but police say he kept lunging toward them.

“He kept becoming not really aggressive, but walking toward the officers as they were trying to deal with him,” one witness said.

One witness who didn’t want to give his name says he watched the entire encounter.

“He started lunging at the cops,” the witness recalled. “And they were actually getting out of his way, trying to give him a chance.”

Police say that is when officers fired, shooting him in the shoulder and leg.

Duncanville PD says the man was not armed. The police department says they no longer carry tasers.

The man was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and is said to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

There is dash cam and body cam video of this shooting, but it is not being released at this time.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
