DPD hosts 'Coffee with Cops' in one high crime neighborhood
DALLAS - The Dallas Police Violent Crime Task Force is making progress getting drugs and guns off the streets of far northeast Dallas.
On Friday people in the neighborhood will have a chance to share their thoughts about the new initiative during a “Coffee with Cops” event. It’s one way for the community to get to know police officers and residents can share their concerns about their neighborhood.
This week Dallas police announced a new Violent Crime Task Force that will target five high-crime areas. Police identified five neighborhoods to focus on first. They include: Forest Lane and Audelia Road in far northeast Dallas, Five Points in northeast Dallas, Ross Avenue and Bennett Avenue in east Dallas, Hampton Road and Ledbetter Drive in Oak Cliff and Hatcher Street and Scyene Road in south Dallas.
Late Thursday night members of the task force shared pictures on Twitter of some of the guns and drugs seized while serving warrants in the area of Forest Lane and Audelia Road. One caption read, "Making the community a little more safe."
The task force is made up undercover police officers, members of the gang unit and K9 officers.
“Coffee with Cops” will be held at McDonald’s locations at 11749 Plano Road, 2475 Royal Lane and 10320 Lake June Road between 7 and 9 a.m.
They're urging folks to come talk to them... the coffee is on them.
