The Dallas Police Department will add 14 brand new Chevy Tahoe SUVs to its fleet thanks to a generous donation.
The DFW Metropolitan New Car Dealers Association presented its gift to DPD Chief David Brown on Friday.
Members of the association said the tragic police ambush in July spurred them to raise more than $1 million to help out the police department. All of the vehicles come equipped with tactical gear.
"It is our hope that these tactical vehicles will assist you in helping make Dallas a safer place for both your officers and all of the good people of this great city,” said auto dealer Bobby Baillargeon.
Chief Brown said the unmarked Tahoes will be used in the department's crime response teams and other specialized units.
