VIDEO: Two killed in DeSoto house fire as flames and smoke engulf home

What we know:

Two people died in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in DeSoto, according to the DeSoto Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a residential fire on Canyon Ridge Drive shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 17. Once at the scene, officials found the home unsafe to enter due to heavy flames and extensive damage.

With help from the Duncanville Fire Department and DeSoto police, firefighters focused on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby homes. The fire was eventually brought under control, and no other homes were damaged.

After further investigation, first responders discovered that two people were inside the home and died in the fire. The investigation remains ongoing.

What we don't know:

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Authorities have not released the names or ages of the two victims.
