Denton ISD opened two new campuses on the site of its old high school with all brand-new, state-of-the-art educational technology.
A courtyard that separates Newton Rayzor Elementary and Calhoun Middle School.
It’s a combination concept perhaps as unique and innovative as are the two campuses themselves.
Top features include natural light and open spaces to encourage collaboration and creativity.
"When you think a business, about a lot of industry, there are open spaces," said Denton ISD Superintendent Dr. Susannah O’Bara. "They’re collaborative spaces, and they allow for people to work together. And I think that’s what you’re seeing here. A lot of open seating, a lot of natural light. It’s a lot of space to work together."
The two international baccalaureate-recognized campuses were built on the site of the old Denton high school. The proximity is a definite benefit for parents who have students at both schools.

However, it’s the difference in age groups and social levels that have some parents a bit apprehensive about the new campus combo.
24 more school districts will start the year on Thursday.
