Wrong-way driver barely avoided several cars before deadly Dallas crash, witnesses say
DALLAS - Witnesses say a police chase with a stolen vehicle that ended in a deadly Dallas crash was nearly much worse.
Devonte Webber is charged with murder in connection to the wrong-way crash while fleeing from officers.
What We Know: The Fort Worth Police Department and the Texas Department of Safety were involved in a pursuit of an armed suspect inside of a stolen vehicle shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The vehicle traveled along Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth and made its way to Dallas.
The chase reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour and the stolen 2024 Jeep Wagoneer cut aggressively across lanes. Police also noted that the Wagoneer drove on the inside and outside shoulders to avoid police.
The chase ended when the Jeep went the wrong way on the service road of I-35 and Inwood Road in Dallas and crashed head-on into 2015 Audi A4.
The driver of the Audi, Joel Jusino Bergollo, a 36-year-old from Downers Grover, Illinois was pronounced dead.
What They're Saying: Trent Wils was sitting at a red light at the intersection of Inwood Road and North Stemmons Freeway when he saw the crash miss several other cars before crashing head-on into a vehicle exiting I-35.
"I just saw this black SUV just fly by, going actually the wrong way," said Wils. "It was loud, but I just remember seeing debris flying and stuff like that, and his back of his vehicle just raising up and just swerving a little bit. That's all I remember."
"I just said a quick little prayer, because that vehicle was torn up," Wils continued.
Rashid Cruz was filling up his car at the gas station and saw the aftermath of the crash.
"It was pretty bad, and it was pretty shocking," Cruz said.

The suspect, Devonte Webber, tried to run from the scene, but was arrested shortly after, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Webber was booked into the Dallas County Jail on charges of murder, evading arrest with a vehicle causing death, the unauthorized use of a vehicle and the unlawful carrying of a weapon.
An arrest warrant affidavit states that Webber had fled from police in Burleson earlier in the day after allegedly committing a robbery.
A black Glock model .357 was also found in the car.
The arrest warrant says Webber lives in Las Vegas, but he told officers that he was from Chicago and has a Chicago tattoo on his arm.
The Wagoneer Webber was driving during the chase was reported stolen out of Chicago.
