Dallas rejects marijuana cite-and-release plan
DALLAS - The Dallas City Council has rejected a plan to ticket people instead of arresting them for minor drug offenses.
The idea had support of several council members and the Dallas police chief. It would have allowed police to issue citations to people caught with small amounts of marijuana instead of arresting them.
But state law prevented the city from extending the policy outside of Dallas County. So, it would not have applied to Dallas residents living in Collin, Rockwall and Denton counties.
That ultimately led the council to vote against the proposal.
